During the visit of the Hon. Information Technology Minister of Telangana (India), Mr. K.T. Rama Rao to Dubai in early September 2023, UIBC-UC organised several meetings with the UAE’s business leaders in Dubai. A senior delegation from UIBC-UC, led by UIBC-UC’s Chair, Mr. Faizal Kottikolan, founder and chairman of KEF Holdings, had detailed talks with the Hon’ble Minister discussing potential investment opportunities. During these meetings, Mr. K.T. Rama Rao extended his consent to partner with Dubai-based companies to invest in Telangana by setting up their business units.
The government of Telangana entered into a partnership with Tabreed, a prominent cooling utility entity from the UAE, to establish cutting-edge cooling infrastructure in industrial parks, including Hyderabad Pharma City. Tabreed is set to invest Rs 1,600 crore in the state, developing 125,000 RT (refrigeration tonnes) of district cooling plants and networks with an investment of up to $200 million. This initiative aims to offer sustainable long-term cooling services through a utility cooling-as-a-service model, catering to the process cooling and storage needs of industrial units.
Chief Minister Rao expressed great enthusiasm about the partnership, emphasising the state's commitment to environmental stewardship through innovative solutions such as cool-roof policies and energy-efficient district cooling. He stated that prioritising cooling as a key focus area contributes significantly to Telangana's ambitious vision of achieving net-zero status by 2047.
Khaled Abdulla Al Qubaisi, Chairman of Tabreed, highlighted the collaboration as a landmark moment in sustainable infrastructure development. He emphasised bringing Tabreed's expertise in district cooling to the world's largest net-zero pharmaceutical cluster and an advanced industrial zone.
