The India-UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) marks a significant milestone in transforming bilateral engagement from traditional trade into a broader strategic and economic partnership. Building on UIBC-UC’s earlier publication, The India-UAE Odyssey: Echoes of History, CEPA’s Melody, and Prospects for Future Harmony, this paper examines CEPA’s post-signing impact, with a focus on the growth of trade, investment, and diversification across key sectors such as gems and jewellery, telecom, energy, and food processing.
Beyond trade metrics, the paper explores how CEPA has strengthened sub-national engagement, enabling Indian states to attract targeted investments, expand exports, and integrate SMEs into global value chains. It also highlights how the UAE’s position as a wealth and investment hub has facilitated new avenues for financial collaboration, creating opportunities for high-net-worth individuals, family offices, and institutional investors to contribute to the deepening of bilateral ties.
Looking ahead, CEPA provides a strong platform for India and the UAE to harness their respective strengths, India’s manufacturing, technological, and entrepreneurial capabilities combined with the UAE’s infrastructure, investment capacity, global reach, and supportive policy environment. By deepening cooperation across areas such as artificial intelligence, space, healthcare, food security, and skilling, and through joint participation in multilateral platforms like BRICS, G20, and IMEEC, the partnership positions itself as a global benchmark for trade, innovation, and sustainable development. This paper serves as a blueprint for understanding CEPA’s transformative potential and the vast opportunities that lie ahead in building a shared, prosperous future.
